New Online Hub Helps Victims Find Resources, Help for Ransomware Attacks
According to Reuters, the U.S. Justice and Homeland Security departments debuted an online hub for the victims of ransomware attacks on July 15, 2021. The hub should make it easier for anyone who falls victim to a ransomware attack to find resources and get assistance. The website, www.StopRansomware.gov, compiles resources and information that were previously spread across many websites, which should decrease the likelihood of missing important information.
The new website is “the first central hub consolidating ransomware resources from all federal government agencies,” according to the Justice Department.
Ransomware attacks have been on the rise lately, with companies and individuals being forced to pay large sums of money to criminals in exchange for the safe return of data. According to the Reuters article, about $350 million in ransom was paid to cybercriminals in 2020, a more than 300% increase from the previous year, the department said.
