Security Update 04/21/20
Cyberattackers Ramp Up to 1.5M COVID-19 Emails Per Day Crazy times and we need to be more vigilant. Several staff members have received some of these phishing Emails and some have caused issues. Even if a COVID Email appears to come from someone you know, it is a good idea to clear it with IT before opening.
Hackers are selling over 5,00,000 Zoom credentials on the dark web. Our members have been gravitating toward Zoom for online meetings, etc. Zoom security issues have, and continue to pose significant security risks. CourseVector had published a blog post about using online meeting software securely.
We located an excellent, brief but current guide on what constitutes PII (Personally Identifiable Information). For staff that deal with member transactions, sign ups, etc., this will help to identify what might be considered PII.
Five billion records exposed. This breach will substantially increase the spam and phishing Emails received by staff, both at work and home. In a lot of cases, several accounts for the same individual were compromised allowing the attacker to contact the potential victim through several social media and Internet channels.
There has been a lot of crazy stuff going on in “Internet Land” over the past 4 weeks. The above were only a very few of the ones that may have a direct impact on staff now or in the near future. As always, please send anything you feel is questionable to IT for review.
Thanks and stay safe!
