Urgent Message – IT Warning
We received a notification from at least one of our boroughs this morning indicating they received the following Email. It was NOT from us and the attachment has been stripped from this message. The unique thing about this Email is that the attachment contains a payload. If the pdf file is clicked, the computer and/or network may be compromised!
There are two things that IT is requesting from staff:
1) If any borough reports a suspicious Email, please notify IT by sending a message to email@example.com. Include as much information as the borough provides. Do not question them about the Email or the attachment and do not make any statements on behalf of PSAB. The issue has already been addressed. IT just needs to be aware of the scope of this attack.
2) It is very likely that this attack will transition to our staff if the attackers were obtaining information and Email addresses from our website. Please do not, under any circumstances, click on the pdf! If you receive a file and are unsure, please forward the entire Email message, with the attachment, to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be more than happy to review it for you prior to your opening it.
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to open a ticket.
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.
