Malware can be a scary thing when browsing the internet. If one is caught unaware, malware can infect a computer or a website and:
- Access a computer’s camera or microphone to spy on the user.
- Monitor a users actions to uncover and record passwords and other sensitive information to steal a users identity and/or money.
- Encrypt files, which can lead to a Ransomware attack.
- Conduct a DDoS attack to take down a server.
- Mine cryptocurrency.
- Deface a site or post embarrassing things about a user on social media.
Luckily, software like Malwarebytes can help to prevent the installation of Malware on a computer or device. Other ways to prevent malware include not visiting sketchy websites; not opening malicious or suspicious emails; and not clicking on suspicious links or downloading files in or from emails, popups or websites.
