QR Codes are the barcode-like pattern scannable by your phone that contain various forms of data, like menus for restaurants, website links, account information, phone numbers, coupons, and phishing opportunities.
Use caution when scanning and interacting with QR Codes to protect yourself. Many of these security tips are the same as one would use to stay safe from an email or text message phishing attempt.
- Check the URL for typos, out-of-place punctuation, or otherwise strange characters.
- Never give personal information via a QR code website.
- Avoid making payments through QR code scans.
