The Harrisburg Area Police Athletic League (PAL) is a nonprofit organization that aims to prevent juvenile crime and violence by building positive relationships between youth and law enforcement officers through sports and other programs in Central Pennsylvania. It is a chapter of the national Police Athletic League organization, which was founded in 1914. The League serves children between the ages for 6-18 and does not discriminate for any reason.

Mentorship Programs of HAPAL
HAPAL put on a variety of programs to engage youth with law enforcement, including Shop with Cops, Tobacco Resistance, Life Learners Initiative, Fishing, Bowling, Roller Skating, Writers Workshop, and more. The idea is to teach positive character traits to help our children become positive and productive members of our community.
All of the programs mentioned are either free or low cost, making them accessible to youth from all walks of life.
Relationships Between Youth and Law Enforcement Through Sports
In addition to sports programs, the Harrisburg Area PAL offers other youth development programs, such as educational support, mentoring, and community service projects. These programs are designed to help youth develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed in school and in life.
The Harrisburg Area PAL offers a variety of programs for youth, including basketball, baseball, wrestling and boxing in our local chapter. These programs are designed to provide a safe and positive environment for youth to participate in sports, learn new skills, and build relationships with law enforcement officers and other mentors.
Community Involvement
The Harrisburg Area PAL is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, including law enforcement officers, community leaders, and other concerned citizens. Through their efforts, the organization is able to provide a valuable service to the community by helping youth develop the skills and character they need to become successful adults.
HAPAL relies on community involvement to make it’s mentorship programs a success. It’s Dancing with the Harrisburg Stars Gala is a big fundraiser to make many of their special events possible throughout the year. However, donations and volunteers are needed and appreciated throughout the year to make the mentorship between our Central Pennsylvania youth and law enforcement possible.
The League works hard to maintain transparency in the use of its funds. Please visit their website for more information on how to donate or how funds are used.
If you are a coach, mentor, tutor, business owner, or if you just want to be involved, you can fill out the HAPAL volunteer application on their website. Since this is an organization that works with youth, PA state clearances must be passed prior to service.
