Keeping Employees Safe Post COVID-19

Creating a safe working environment in the office

We have all worked really hard to “flatten the curve”. With restrictions easing, it is time to think about what office life looks like post-pandemic. Here are a few things to consider before opening the office and allowing employees to commingle at work.

Make a list of supplies – Employers will be expected to provide a safe work environment. This might mean supplying masks, gloves, sanitizer, and in some cases more personal protective equipment (PPE) to employees. Make a list of the PPE that is required by your industry. Note what and how much you need.

Find a supplier – It is definitely a seller’s market for PPE. It is important to vet any supplier, making sure that they are reputable and will deliver what is promised. It might be worth while to partner with other businesses to increase purchasing power to get the best deal or buy in bulk.

Set the standard – Employees need to know what is required of them when they return to work. Are they required to wear masks at all times? Do they need to wear gloves or other PPE? Are there new cleaning standards in place to help keep them safe? It is important to educate employees prior to their return.

Monitor supplies – Because protective equipment can be difficult to come by, it is important to keep an inventory, log who has what, and store any extra supplies in a secure area.

Employee screening – As we navigate this uncharted territory together, it may be necessary to keep a no-touch thermometer or other testing equipment at the office to ensure that everyone there is healthy.
