Mobile First Indexing in 2021

Desktop sites to be dropped from Google index

Beginning in March of 2021, Google is going to index only mobile websites. Desktop sites are slated to be dropped from the search engines indexing.

Responsive website will be okay, as the same content is presented on both mobile and desktop versions of the website. However, users with m-dot sites should expect to work out some kinks in March. If a site uses the m-dot subdomain, Google may or may not be able to redirect a desktop user to the correct site.

responsive website design

Websites that have two completely different versions on mobile versus desktop should consider changing their SEO / web design strategy now before the change goes into effect. If your website has certain elements only visible on desktop sites, it would be wise to make that same content available on the mobile version as well. Remember, the mobile version is the only one that will be indexed.

Current CourseVector and PSAB web design clients should be okay if your website was built in the past few years. If your website is outdate, not responsive, and only viewable on desktop, please contact us today for a quote on upgrading to a responsive design before these indexing changes take place.
